Silk was born Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay is the daughter Peter, a teacher and an actor and playwright who is a top performer. She completed her studies at St. Thomas University with an Associate of Arts degree in 1997. Silk made the move to Toronto for further development of her acting career in November 1999. She then, over the following decade relocated into Los Angeles, California. Seth Cooperman is her future partner, whom she discovered at a workshop in Los Angeles at an Actors Workshop in 2007. They got married in 2009, then wed in a civil ceremony in the month of December in that same year. The couple reaffirmed their vows on April 10, 2011, in Fredericton during a Jewish ceremony after becoming Jewish.
